Preparing for Your All-Star Cheerleading Competition Schedule

All-star cheerleading allows athletes from all over the world to connect with each other, as well as compete against each other to see who truly is the best. As tryout and announcement season comes to a close and practices begin, gyms across the world have begun releasing their competition schedules. If you already have yours, chances are probably pretty good you’re looking at a national cheerleading competition or two! If this means travel, it’s time to get ready and start preparing for the trips now.

Money

It goes without saying that cheerleading is expensive! Many gyms and competition companies set up travel rates with nearby hotels (yes, WSA Cheer included!) to make sure you can find a hotel that is within your budget and close to the competition venue. Of course, there is a lot more to pay for than just the hotel. Whether you need to save to buy plane tickets or reserve your rental car now, planning ahead is key to being ready for competition season. If you are concerned about money, check with the owner of your gym and parents to see if they are doing any fundraising. Many athletes raise enough to cover most of their travel expenses, if not all of them!

Time Off

As a parent, you’ll need to take some time off of work, and your cheerleader will probably have to take some time off from school. Make sure you are prepared to take that vacation time or plan to have another parent take your child to the event. Also, while we encourage responsibility with our cheerleaders, it never hurts to remind them to plan ahead. Make sure they grab any assignments and take any tests they would be missing early to stay on their teachers’ good sides.

Travel Plans

As we mentioned earlier, many competition companies offer a special rate to athletes and their families. However, those spots are finite, and they fill up fast. Always check with your gym management team to see what they have planned for your athletes. For many national cheerleading competitions, they can offer some sort of group rate on a hotel or reserve a block somewhere nearby. Keep in mind that even though competitions usually aren’t until Saturday or Sunday, your gym may require you to be there the Thursday before so the team can practice. Always follow their guidelines for your athlete’s arrival and departure.

See You During Competition Season!

While all-star cheerleading competition season is still a ways off, that doesn’t mean you can put off planning. Now that your child has made their team, it’s time to plan ahead to stay ahead of the game. Instead of worrying about last-minute flights and hotels 30 minutes from the venue, you’ll be able to relax and enjoy the performance your athlete and their team are about to share with the world.

We can’t wait to see you at your next big competition! Check out our schedule to see when we’ll be in a city near you next. Happy practicing, and safe travels to you and your family!
