WSA Scoring
System
WSA is proud to
introduce a revolutionary scoring system to the cheer industry.
After speaking with many coaches throughout the country, I
continuously heard the same comment about the current score
system.
Coach said,
“They could not understand how a team that had 25% of the team
executing a particular skill could score even or out score a
team that had 75% of the team executing the same skill.” I
thought this was a very valid point. Therefore, I called
on some of the most qualified judges in the country to help come
up with a solution.
The new score
system rewards teams for difficulty and execution.
50% of your
final score is difficulty and 50% is execution.
Technical
Skills
Include: Basket Tosses, Partner Stunts, Pyramids, Standing
Tumbling, Running Tumbling
Teams that have half or less of their team involved in a skill
will score 50% of the value available for that skill. The
judge will base the score they choose on the number of athletes
performing the skill and then score the athletes on the
execution of the skill.
Example:
Level 5 team – 30 members
12-13 athletes perform standing back
tucks (Or 50%) and one or two take a step, but no one falls or
touches down.
Standing Tumbling
Difficulty -
3 - 5 . . . . 6-8 . . . .
9-11 . . . . 12-14
(25%)
(50%)
(75%)
(100%)
Execution –60 . . . . 70
. . . . 80 . . . . 90 . . . . 100
Difficulty Score is 50% or
6-8
Execution Score
90-100
This system will reward teams for their
difficulty, but only if they execute the skill correctly.
Non Technical
Skills
Include: Jumps, Dance, Motions,
Spacing/Formations, Synchronization
Teams will be judged on the execution portion only of these
skills.
Remember, a
judges’ score is subjective. The difficulty section
will somewhat limit the judges to scoring based on the number of
athletes performing the skill or involved in the skill.
The executions section is the subjective part of the
scoring system.
The below chart
will help show you how teams will score in the new difficulty
section. Once the
percentage of athletes performing the required skill for their
level is determined, all judges must score the team in the
appropriate range.
Score
Deductions:
Deductions will be counted each incident.
Deductions will be added and taken away from the total judges
combined scores.
Deductions are considered in the following areas.

B. Standing Tumbling
1.0 for each step or touchdown
3.0 for each major fall
C. Partner Stunts

3.0 for each drop or fall
D. Pyramids

Olympic Scoring:
WSA 2 day event will take the highest score
from Day 1 and Day 2. Scores will not be combined for a
percentage. It is simple, your highest score of the 2 days
represents you on the final score board.
